Optical and photonic technologies are essential tools in biomedical research. This includes both microscopy techniques that allow a view of molecules and structures have in the living cell, a variety of spectroscopic methods for diagnosis, as well as the use of optical technologies in therapy, for example in ophthalmology.
The Center for Medical Optics and Photonics is a common profile center of the faculties of Physics and Astronomy, of Chemical and Earth Sciences and of Medicine at Jena University.
